Summer Facial Hair Guide

May 31, 2013

With the snow well and truly cleared, it may be time to part with your warming winter beard. While it is less of a fashion statement and more of a comfort during the windy, cold days that we are all too familiar with, they may have become unnecessary and irrelevant now the sun has appeared and you may be considering visiting your trusty barbershop to get it shaven off.

For some, shaving off your facial hair may in fact be a sad occasion, especially if you have been working on the perfect style all through the winter. However, the clean shaven look doesn’t have to be your only option and with some titivation you could have the perfect facial hair for summer 2013 that won’t leave you hot and bothered.

The first summer style takes inspiration from Leonardo DiCaprio at his latest film premiere. The Great Gatsby star looked every inch the classic gentleman and his facial hair definitely contributed to his masculine image. The circle beard has to be one of the best styles for summer 2013 with the perfect amount of facial hair to keep in with the fashion trends, without being too much for the summer months. The circle beard involves the meeting of the moustache and the goatee, creating an outline around the mouth. This style will suit every man and is great for those who wish to add some masculinity to their image.

The moustache is huge fashion trend at the moment so it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to get rid of it just yet. However, when you enter the realm of moustaches you have to be careful, as it is a very risky area. Moustaches require a lot of care and without it you may start to wander into the retro styles that we have seen throughout the years. There is a fine line between fashionable and frightful so try to stay away from any styles that may be classed as over the top and opt for a simple and classic ‘tache. Your local barber will be able to give you advice on different moustache styles that are easy to maintain and perfect for summer.

The five o’clock shadow offers a more sophisticated and subtler version of stubble and is easily achieved by simply leaving your hair to grow for a few days. This is an incredibly easy style to grow and maintain, especially if you hair grows fast. On the other hand, those who don’t get much facial hair will find the five o’clock shadow difficult to pull off. The style lands between clean shaven and the short beard, making it a great option for this season, as it won’t be too thick and hot.

The goatee is one of the most classic facial hair styles and has been donned by many a male celebrity over the years. Johnny Depp is famous for his love of the goatee and it adds to his overall indie image. There are variations of the style and while Depp opts for a thick goatee, for summer you may choose to have simple stubble in the same style and then let it grow out for the winter. Whatever you choose, the goatee isn’t going out of style any time soon, allowing for a long term style for your facial hair.

Your designer hairdresser can help you to come up with different styles perfect for your face shape and practical for the summer season.
